Overcoming depression the mindful way!

 

Life is a roller-coaster ride full of ups and downs. We all have our good days and bad days from time to time, but if melancholy and despair have taken hold of your life and ‘the blues’ just refuse to leave you, then you may have clinical depression. The symptoms of depression can vary from person to person, but generally people describe it as a feeling of living in a black hole. Feelings of helplessness, self-loathing, loss of interest in daily activities, insomnia, and recurring anger or irritability are some of the common symptoms of depression. 

 

Depression is like constant cold, wintry weather that dampens the soul and affects everyone around a person suffering from it. People having depression feel that life is not worth living, making them suffer in personal relationships, jobs and social activities. They cannot see the beauty of the dancing snowflakes or the cheery rays of the sun. In short, they feel that life is not worth living

Most of the challenge is won when you decide in your heart that you will not let the mood win over the mind. Friends and family are a great support during ‘the blues’; expressing your feelings to them can help you heal from within. The most important thing of all is to get support and guidance from someone you trust. They can help in creating an effective treatment plan that will most likely involve a combination of group therapy, lifestyle changes, supplements, and very importantly – meditation.
