Overcoming depression the mindful way!
Life is a roller-coaster ride full of ups and downs. We all have our good days and bad days from time to time, but if melancholy and despair have taken hold of your life and ‘the blues’ just refuse to leave you, then you may have clinical depression. The symptoms of depression can vary from person to person, but generally people describe it as a feeling of living in a black hole. Feelings of helplessness, self-loathing, loss of interest in daily activities, insomnia, and recurring anger or irritability are some of the common symptoms of depression.
Depression is like constant cold, wintry weather that dampens the soul and affects everyone around a person suffering from it. People having depression feel that life is not worth living, making them suffer in personal relationships, jobs and social activities. They cannot see the beauty of the dancing snowflakes or the cheery rays of the sun. In short, they feel that life is not worth living
Depression and discrimination in society form a never-ending loop. In a research conducted by the King’s College – London’s Institute of Psychiatry, England, and reported in The Lancet in October 2012; 79% of people who have been diagnosed with depression say they have experienced discrimination because of their mental disorder. Earlier investigations have also proven that depression is a consequence of discrimination and vice-versa.
One may feel like asking, why do I feel so depressed all the time? There are many factors that lead to depression, and medical help can only suppress the symptoms. Many questions may arise in the mind at this point, like what is the solution to constant melancholic behaviour? How can I heal my depression? Group therapy workshops, and spiritual retreats with an extensive experience in spiritual healing can help overcome depression. For complete freedom of the mind, soul and body from the disorder, it is very important to confide in others and receive support.
Healing Trauma spiritual retreat is a workshop that covers the foundational understanding of how trauma is held in our bodies, and how to work with anxiety, stress and the daily overwhelm in our lives.
Most of the challenge is won when you decide in your heart that you will not let the mood win over the mind. Friends and family are a great support during ‘the blues’; expressing your feelings to them can help you heal from within. The most important thing of all is to get support and guidance from someone you trust. They can help in creating an effective treatment plan that will most likely involve a combination of group therapy, lifestyle changes, supplements, and very importantly – meditation.
Meditation opens us up to possibilities enabling us to come out of the restrictive state that sometimes feels like we’re lost in a dark hole. When we awaken our awareness through meditation, we expand our horizon and come out of the tunnel-like vision of hopelessness. Both guided meditations and group therapy workshops by Rupda can greatly support you in your healing journey. Rupda has been a friend and spiritual therapist to many, and her life-changing workshops have inspired people around the globe.
